Made By/Mkt by: Direct from the looms of Waseem Bhai’s Saree Cooperative in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Waseem bhai has been practicing Banarasi weaving for past 25 years. Waseem bhai has earned a great reputation for himself for his integrity, quality of his products and innovative design sensibilities. He and his family have lived in Varanasi for generations and have helped perpetuate this declining but beautiful heritage weave. We look for many more years of design collaboration and partnership with him. His sarees are made in the Tanchoi, Jamewar, Rangkat and brocade weaves on typical benarasi silks and georgettes with highly skilled zari work. We are thrilled to bring this highly curated collection of authentic banarasi varieties right here!

Banarasi: Banarasi sarees come from the ancient city of Banaras, also known as Varanasi. Banarasi silk sarees are among the finest in India with opulent brocade or zari work. These majestic saris are often part of an Indian bride’s trousseau. Depending on the intricacy of the design, one saree may take up 10 days to six months to complete. There is something timeless about the exquisite beauty of Banarsi sarees. The biggest threat to the weavers today comes from powerloom manufactured, polyester containing imitation Banarsi textiles that are sometimes passed off as silk handloom. We make every effort to get to know the weavers and their families we work with personally and create work that’s not only authentic and highest quality but also keep up with the contemporary design and colorways.
