Made By/Mkt by: Direct from the looms of Kastoori Sarees in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, established by Salauddin Ji. He is a third generation weaver artisan who has helped preserve this beautiful but declining heritage weave. There are 10 looms installed at his residence. He makes pure silk, Muga silk and Cotton silk banarasi textiles, like fabric, dupatta and sarees.
Banarasi: Banarasi sarees come from the ancient city of Banaras, also known as Varanasi. Banarasi silk sarees are among the finest in India with opulent brocade or zari work. These majestic saris are often part of an Indian bride’s trousseau. Depending on the intricacy of the design, one saree may take up 10 days to six months to complete. There is something timeless about the exquisite beauty of Banarsi sarees. The biggest threat to the weavers today comes from powerloom manufactured, polyester containing imitation Banarsi textiles that are sometimes passed off as silk handloom. We make every effort to get to know the weavers and their families we work with personally and create work that’s not only authentic and highest quality but also keep up with the contemporary design and colorways.
