Made By: Sourced ethically from the from the looms of Haider Ali. He is 28 years old and has been weaving for past 10 years. He and his family have lived in Varanasi for generations and have helped perpetuate this declining but beautiful heritage weave. He is part of the Burhani Mubarakpur Sahyog.

Banarasi: Banarasi textiles come from the ancient city of Banaras, also known as Varanasi. Banarasi silk sarees are among the finest in India with opulent brocade or zari work. These majestic saris are often part of an Indian bride’s trousseau. Depending on the intricacy of the design, one saree may take up 10 days to six months to complete. There is something timeless about the exquisite beauty of Banarsi sarees. The biggest threat to the weavers today comes from powerloom manufactured, polyester containing imitation Banarsi textiles that are sometimes passed off as silk handloom. We make every effort to get to know the weavers and their families we work with personally and create work that’s not only authentic and highest quality but also keep up with the contemporary design and colorways.
