Made By: This pure linen handwoven saree is a celebration of cloth, nature and culture. We worked with highly skilled weaver artisans from the Nabdwip region to hand weave this fine 100 count linen saree.  These were then hand printed in Batik technique using natural Indigo dyes, at Shakil ji’s workshop in Gujrat who has carried on this heritage technique practiced by 6 previous generations in his family. He, along with his family 6 family members and 7 other artisans run the workshop in Mundra, Gujrat. He is infusing this ancient art with his eco-friendly  approach and contemporary design sensibility, it comes as a no surprise then that we hit off with him and it has been a total pleasure interacting and collaborating with him. Please follow our social media accounts for more info about process and artisan stories.

Batik: The typical process for this techniques after the sarees were handwoven looks like this. Design concept starting with hand drawings, converting into digital image, hand carving wood block, printing with hot wax over bed of damp sand, Vat dyeing in natural Indigo, hot water bath to remove wax which is collected and reused, washing, drying and steam iron.
