We are swooning over this rich red handwoven cotton silk Chanderi saree with masterfully woven meenakari buta in gold zari and complimentary emerald green. We love this design so much we are offering this in two other colors, a navy blue and off white.
This saree comes directly from the looms of Islamuddin Ansari, a 3rdgeneration weaver from Chanderi. This exquisite Chanderi silk took one weaver working 10 days complete. To learn more about the makers, process and product please read under description.

Made By/Mkt by: Islamuddin Ansari is 24 years old and picked up weaving at age 15, giving much needed support to his father, Jaleel Ansari and mother Fareeda Bano. His sister Shifa Bano is also a weaver. They have two looms in their home and all family members operate them. He has a great eye for detail. We have been quite inspired and encouraged by his enthusiasm and energy. We hope that younger generation men and women weavers like him may just be the key to galvanize handloom sector.
Chanderi: Chanderi is a small town situated in Vindhyachal hills in the north of Madhya Pradesh, it boasts of beautiful historical places in and around it. Chanderi is one of the best-known handloom clusters in India, particularly famous for its sarees, produced from finest silk and cotton with intricate gold and silver zari work. Chanderi weaving traditions began around 13th century. Traditional coin, floral art, peacocks and geometric themed designs are woven into different Chanderi patterns. Pre and post-independence royal families provided the much needed patronage to the weaving community. However, Chanderi weavers today continuing this heritage weave remain most vulnerable to poverty due to several reasons both at market and policy levels. We have been fortunate to work directly with weavers of Chanderi, get to know them and their families and share their beautiful, diaphanous textiles with you.
